CARROLLTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Authorities in Carrollton said that a wrong-way driver is responsible for causing four separate crashes along Interstate-35E early Friday morning. The crashes took place at around 5:00 a.m. in the southbound lanes of the highway.

According to police, a male driver was traveling northbound in those southbound lanes. The first crash took place in Farmers Branch, close to near Valley View Lane. But the driver kept on moving.

The second crash took place in Carrollton, near the Valwood Parkway exit. The third crash happened a little further north of Valwood Parkway and the final crash was on the bridge over Luna Road. Several cars were badly damaged in the four crashes, including the suspect's vehicle, but nobody was hurt.

One of the victims swerved his SUV into a wall trying to avoid a crash with the black Honda Accord heading the wrong way down the highway. The names of the victims are not being released by police.

The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Every Hoss Cooper. Authorities said that Cooper lives in east Dallas and was heading home at the time of the four crashes, but traveling in the opposite direction. Cooper was coming from Club Onyx, located several miles south of the first wreck. It is not yet known where he entered the freeway.

"The officer said that he was clearly intoxicated," explained Sgt. Andrew Horn of the Carrollton Police Department. "They believe both alcohol and possibly narcotics or other drugs."

Cooper was taken into custody and now faces charges for DWI, wreckless driving and failing to stop and render aid. He also has a police record for burglary of a habitat, theft, possession of marijuana and assault casuing bodily injury. Police said that he was cooperating and answering questions initially, but is now in a padded cell and fighting with investigators.

The crashes did temporarily shut down the southbound lanes of the interstate, but traffic is now moving smoothly once again.
