Wrong-Way Driver Hits Semi In Dallas, I-30 Closed
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - There's been another interstate crash, fuel spill, and highway shutdown -- this time in Dallas. A driver going the wrong way on I-30 crashed into a tractor-trailer around 3:30 a.m. Friday.
The accident and subsequent fuel spill has closed the eastbound lanes of I-30, starting at 2nd Street near downtown.
The 18-wheeler wasn't carrying anything hazardous in its cargo, but at least 100 gallons of diesel gasoline spilled from the fuel tanks on the truck. A Hazardous Materials Team (HAZMAT) was called to the scene to deal with cleanup.
The driver of the car is 25-year-old Stephanie Michele Dickson from Mansfield. Dallas Sheriff Deputy, Raul Reyna, says the woman's driver's license shows she's got a record.
"She does appear to have a history of alcohol related offenses," said Reyna. "Right now we don't know if alcohol was involved in this one [crash], it's still under investigation."
Dickson was taken to a local hospital in serious condition.
The driver of the 18-wheeler did not suffer life-threatening injuries.
There's no word when Interstate-30 will reopen. As of Friday morning, drivers headed eastbound had to exit at 2nd Street and can get back on the highway just east of Haskell Avenue.
