Wrong-Way Driver Causes Fort Worth Crash

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - Five people were taken to the hospital after a wrong-way driver caused a four-car accident early Sunday morning.

Fort Worth Police Sergeant Pedro Criado said 45-year-old Marcus Deon Burkley was driving eastbound in the westbound side of Highway 121 in a Lincoln. At around 4:00 a.m. a driver in a black Dodge spotted Burkley near the North Riverside Drive entrance ramp and swerved to avoid him. Burkley swerved in the same direction causing a collision. The Dodge then rolled 180 degrees.

Burkley's vehicle then bounced off the guardrail on the inside shoulder and hit a Chevy Malibu and a black Mazda.

Four people from the Dodge were taken to the hospital. Their condition is unknown.

The lone occupant in the Malibu was also taken to the hospital with severe injuries.

The lone occupant in the Mazda was uninjured.

Criado said Burkley was arrested for "intoxication assault causes serious bodily injury". He was transported to the hospital for his injuries. His picture has not been released.

CBS 11 News has learned Burkley has a previous criminal record including charges of assault with bodily injury, evading arrest and drug possession.
