Wounded Fort Worth Police Officer Finally Going Home

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A wounded Fort Worth police officer is finally going home Tuesday after being shot in the line of duty nearly two months ago. Officer Matt Pearce was struck multiple times by gunfire when police were ambushed while chasing a suspect.
It was March 15 when authorities were attempting to arrest Ed McIver Sr. on aggravated assault charges. The suspect ran with his adult son into a wooded area, and officers followed. The chase ended with a gun battle that left Pearce injured and McIver dead. The suspect's son was taken into custody.
After nearly two months, Pearce will be released at 2:15 p.m. on Tuesday from JPS Hospital in Fort Worth. This is the day that his friends and family members have been anticipating, and they welcome any community members who wish to be at the hospital to support Pearce when he heads home. The officer will be escorted away from the hospital by his colleagues.
Pearce will then rest at home before continuing his rehabilitation at a center in Houston. His family added that, in around two months, he will have another scan to check on the recovery of his injured aorta.
