Would The Cowboys Consider Drafting Manziel?
DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) -- Is there a better marriage in sports?

"I'm a big fan of [Manziel] -- serious fan of his," said owner Jerry Jones with Ben & Skin on 105.3 The Fan. "As a football player -- as a winner."

But despite having a "man crush" on Manziel (as longtime Cowboys scout Larry Lacewell believes), Jerry is realistic in the Cowboys chances of landing the 2012 Heisman Trophy Winner, who many project as a top-5 pick. The Cowboys hold the 16th pick in May's draft.
"We'll never see him. We coudn't get there if we traded three drafts."
And Jones, who celebrated the 25-year anniversary of purchasing the club on Tuesday, is realistic on another front -- the Cowboys simply don't need a quarterback.
"He's going to be an outstanding NFL football player," said Jones, "but we have Tony Romo, and Tony Romo is our ticket."
Though Jerry is largely disappointed that the Cowboys haven't cashed in their "ticket" during Romo's tenure, he is confident that Romo gives the Cowboys their best shot at returning to a Super Bowl.
"We should have been knocking on the door, and we haven't. No excuses. It starts here," said Jones. "Our best chance to get to the Super Bowl is a healthy Romo."
Jerry's son, Executive Vice President/COO Stephen Jones, also believes that landing Manziel is a longshot. However, that doesn't mean the Cowboys, who interviewed Manziel at the NFL Combine, should completely ignore the talent.
"You have to be prepared. You never know what people are going to be thinking," said Stephen on 105.3 The Fan. "To assume a player is going to be picked in the top 5, I think it's how you get in trouble. We want to know every player as well as we can possibly know them."
Stephen compares Manziel to Dez Bryant, who the Cowboys believed was out of reach in the 2010 draft. But Bryant fell, allowing the Cowboys to trade up three slots and pick Bryant with the 24th pick.
The Jones family may not think that Manziel will be around, but it's impossible to deny their interest in the Texas talent. And the Cowboys are no strangers to making draft day news.
"It's just amazing to see the skill level that he's got and his intensity on the field," said Jerry.
Will we see that skill and intensity in Texas? The Houston Texans are on the clock.
