World War II Veteran To Be Laid To Rest In DFW 73 Years Later
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - A World War II veteran, whose remains were identified in April, will be laid to rest on Monday at DFW National Cemetery after 73 years.
Army Pvt. Kenneth D. Farris of Dodson, Texas was killed during World War II in Germany.
Farris was injured by artillery on Nov. 28, 1944 while his unit was in the Hurtgen Forest in Germany. Survivors said he was last seen trying to find an aid station. He was listed as missing in action and then later deceased on Nov. 29, 1945.
His remains were recovered in May 1946 but were unable to be identified. His remains were held at an American cemetery in France until they were eventually sent to the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency for analysis on July 27, 2017.
His remains were identified on April 23.
The North Texas Patriot Guard Riders will escort Farris and his family to his final resting place at DFW National Cemetery. The group is encouraging the public to join them in honoring Farris and his family.
The service will start at 11 a.m.
