Women Jumps From Apartment To Avoid Fire
For a few frightening moments a Garland woman was trapped by an apartment complex fire. The fire was reported at an apartment complex near Walnut and Jupiter in Garland about 7:30. A man making breakfast left food on the stove to check on his granddaughter and returned to find the kitchen engulfed. The flames blocked the hallway in front of the woman's second floor apartment... so Merrill Ballanciere of the Garland Fire Department says she climbed over the side of the balcony. The woman jumped into a group of people that were ready to catch her. She did still sustain an ankle injury. The fire gutted six apartments and damaged another two.
