Woman Struck & Killed Trying To Cross I-30 Service Road

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A woman is killed while trying to cross the service road of Interstate-30 during rush hour, in west Fort Worth.

The incident happened in the westbound lanes of the highway, near Lockheed Boulevard.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was apparently trying to cross the 2-lane road as cars were approaching.

"The first vehicle did swerve and was able miss the victim," Fort Worth police Sergeant Pedro Criado explained. "The second vehicle attempted to swerve causing it to fishtail from side-to-side and ended colliding with the victim on the left side of the vehicle."

Police say evidence at the scene and the information they've gathered leads them to believe the drivers could not have avoided hitting the victim.

"There's obvious skid marks here on the road and the accounts of the witness as well as the vehicle that did strike the victim here, it seems to match up," Criado said. "We don't anticipate any criminal charges in this case. It just happens to be a tragic accident that occurred here today."

The victim was taken from the scene in serious condition but died at Harris Methodist Hospital.
