SOUTHLAKE (1080 KRLD/CBSDFW) - A Flower Mound woman has died after being shot in her car at a popular Southlake shopping area yesterday.
Southlake Police arrested 52-year old Kenneth Dean Martin after investigators said he allegedly chased down his wife in the middle of Southlake Town Square and shot her from the street.
Chief James Brandon said that 55-year old Linda Martin was driving a black jeep and stopped at the light near Central Avenue and East Southlake Boulevard. Brandon said the suspect caught up to his wife, got out of his Ford pick-up truck and started shooting.
The Tarrant County medical examiner confirmed that Linda Martin died from her wounds at Baylor Grapevine hospital Tuesday night.
"That's the ultimate tragedy sometimes when we see at the end of these things," said Chief Brandon.
Police believe the couple was in the middle of a dispute but did not specify why the couple was fighting.
"It's shocking in any regards. It doesn't matter if it's Southlake, Fort Worth or Dallas," said Chief Brandon.
Witnesses said they heard multiple gunshots. None of the bullets fired hit anyone else in the area.
"We're thankful in the end that the aggressor didn't mean harm to a larger group of people," said Chief Brandon. "Officers were here within a couple of minutes and got him into custody, but that's something we're always concerned about."
Kenneth Martin has been charged with murder and is being held at the Keller Regional Jail pending arraignment.
Police are working to figure out what happened just prior to the shooting.
