DALLAS (CBSDW.COM) - Police and a family are desperate to find a woman who was kidnapped from the Pleasant Grove section of Dallas. The family has identified the missing woman as Ashley Mayhew.

According to police, the 22-year-old was sleeping in a car when her friends stepped out of the vehicle to visit with a resident in the 3200 block of Minoco Drive. An unknown man approached the group as they stood on the front porch.

The unknown man started fighting with the resident and ultimately fired a pistol. The man then allegedly jumped into the where Mayhew was sleeping and sped off.

A neighbor, who asked not to be identified because she fears for her safety, heard what happened. "We are watching a movie inside… and out of nowhere the shots came out and we came outside."

The woman said the next thing they knew a vehicle was leaving – fast. "A car came out and it peeled out. It just left."

The car speeding away was the one Mayhew was sleeping in. The incident happened Monday night and neither Mayhew nor the car have been seen since.

Police are looking for a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. The car is gray in color, has 4-doors and tinted windows. The vehicle has a Texas license plate with the number – FHW9774.

Anyone with information about the stolen car or the suspect is asked to contact Dallas police at 214-671-3649.
