DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - An elderly woman is hospitalized after a fire broke out at a Dallas high-rise nursing home.

Just before 9:00 a.m. Tuesday, smoke was reported on the fourth floor of the Dickinson Nursing Home, near Baylor Medical Center.

Jason Evans, of Dallas Fire-Rescue, says the injured woman was found unconscious on the floor of her room.

"We don't know if it [the fire] started on her. We don't know if the burn injuries came directly from the source of the fire," Evans said.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was taken to Baylor, stabilized, and then transferred to the Parkland Hospital Burn Center. It is believed she suffered second and third-degree burns.

"It appears that she was trying to escape the room and possibly was rendered unconscious by smoke and that's when she sustained her burns," explained Evans.

The current condition of the woman is not known.

Other residents had to be evacuated.

The Dickinson Nursing Home is a 12-story building. Investigators are still trying to figure out how the fire started.
