Woman Fatally Shot On Dallas Street, Suspect Shoots Self
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM/AP) - A woman has been fatally shot on a Dallas street while fleeing from her armed, estranged husband who then allegedly carjacked a vehicle, drove home and barricaded himself inside.
Police say one gunshot was heard from inside the home Friday morning as officers approached. Dallas SWAT was called and, after several hours, entered the house and discovered the suspect had shot himself and was dead.
The couple were married but had recently separated.
Around 7:30 a.m., Dallas police Lt. David Pughes says the couple was in a vehicle and were arguing. The woman, who was driving the car, tried to get away by jumping out of the vehicle and running down the street. The man reportedly chased her down and shot her near the intersection of Illinois and S. Cockrell Hill. The woman died at the scene.
The couple's vehicle was left in gear and rolled down the street, so the gunman allegedly carjacked another vehicle.
A spokesperson with the Dallas Police Department explained how an officer at the scene had a hunch about where the suspect might be going. "So, he [the officer] was out here previously on a domestic disturbance and had taken a report and that's why he felt like the suspect and the victim were these same people that were involved in this family disturbance previously, which led him to this location." That location was a house in the 5200 block of Tato.
The names of the man and woman were not immediately released.
