Woman Arrested For Hit And Run On Balch Springs Firefighter
BALCH SPRINGS (CBSDFW.COM) - Balch Springs Police have arrested a 69-year-old woman for allegedly ramming a firefighter with her car while he attempted to direct traffic in January.
Linda Stone of Lancaster has been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a felony of the first degree, in the incident.
On Jan. 23, firefighter Frank Shafer was diverting traffic from northbound I-635 to the Lake June Road exit ramp when a vehicle bumped him while stopping. Stone, who was allegedly driving the vehicle, looked at Shafer through the front glass and accelerated the vehicle. Shafer grabbed onto the hood and was carried 150-175 feet before sliding off the side of the vehicle.
He sustained only minor injuries in the incident. The vehicle then fled the scene.
Investigators were able to identify the vehicle using images from a red light camera at a nearby location. When the vehicle was located, investigators noted visible damage to the front hood and windshield. Stone initially denied having driven the car, but eventually admitted that she was the driver.
The bond has been set at $5,000.
