NEW YORK (CBS SPORTS) - Despite the Dallas Cowboys' 2-3 record with two straight defeats, owner/GM Jerry Jones still has high hopes for this season. He was asked earlier in the week about his goals, and he said he believes the Cowboys can compete for a championship… this year.
He's not wavering, and one of his team captains couldn't be more supportive.
Tight end Jason Witten said that mindset is the only one to have, and he hopes the rest of his teammates share it. "Every man in this room should believe that," Witten said. "If they don't then [they should] get out of here. That doesn't mean we don't have to go prove it. You got to go prove it every week. There's a lot games we have done good things, and there's a lot of things we need to improve on."
Witten said it's a long season with 11 games still to play, and he pointed out that the defending champions had some turmoil midway through last season. "There's a lot of good football left," Witten said.
