Witness Recalls Crash That Killed Cowboys Player
DALLAS (AP) -- A witness to the deadly crash that killed a Dallas Cowboys player and left a teammate facing criminal charges says he saw the car skidding down the highway on its roof after hitting a curb.
The Dallas Morning News reports that Bill Gray called 911 after watching the Dec. 8 accident unfold near the old Texas Stadium in Irving. Gray told the newspaper he saw Cowboys lineman Josh Brent wobble and yell for help as he emerged from the flipped Mercedes.
Gray says he saw Brent grab the ankles of teammate Jerry Brown Jr. and pull him through the window. The bystander said the 24-year-old Brent then slapped Brown's face and shook him.
Brown died and was buried Saturday. Brent is charged with intoxicated manslaughter and free on bond.
