5-Year-Old Girl Killed, 2 Others Struck By Hit-And-Run Suburban

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) – One child was struck and killed and two others were hit and injured by a driver in a red Suburban who fled the scene after hitting a parked car in the 5200 block of Southcrest Court, police sources say.

The children were hit by the Suburban at about 2:20 p.m. Witness B.J. Stevenson said she performed CPR on a five-year-old girl until MedStar officials arrived.

Fort Worth Police spokeswoman Sharron Neal said the girl was pronounced dead at Cooks Children Hospital. The boy who was struck was six-years-old.

Neal did not know the third child's age. The girl's mother, Fort Worth resident Keshia WIlliams, identified the girl as Khyla Hayes. One injured child is at Harris Methodist Hospital while the other remains at Cooks Children, Neal said.

Neal said the vehicle fled after the collision and the driver and passenger pulled into an apartment complex west of the incident and tried to flee on foot. Witnesses caught the two and held them there until police arrived.

The driver of the red Suburban was charged with Failure to Stop and Render Aid, Neal said.

Neither the driver nor the passenger has been identified.
