Military Restructure, Fort Bliss & Fort Hood Each Losing 1 Brigade

FORT BLISS (AP) - Fort Bliss and Fort Hood each are losing a 4,000-soldier brigade as part of massive U.S. Army restructuring that slashes the number of active duty combat brigades by 2017.

But officials at both Texas Army posts said Tuesday that they're not losing that many soldiers.

Maj. Joe Buccino, a Fort Bliss spokesman, says he thinks the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team will be eliminated. It's part of the 1st Armored Division.

But officials say the net loss will be about 1,000 soldiers. Details will be released Wednesday at the post near El Paso.

At Fort Hood in Central Texas, officials said the 4th Armored Brigade Combat Team, part of the 1st Cavalry Division, was being cut. They said the net loss will be 2,900 because some troops will be added.
