Winds Damage Texas Tech Stadium Lights
LUBBOCK (AP) - Strong winds have damaged part of a light tower at Texas Tech's football stadium and forced evacuation of some nearby buildings as a precaution.
School officials in Lubbock on Thursday afternoon announced the southeast light tower of Jones AT&T Stadium has suffered unspecified wind damage. Work crews were examining the site. No injuries were reported.
The National Weather Service reported gusts topping 40 mph and a wind advisory Thursday afternoon on a blustery spring day in Lubbock.
The area surrounding the south and southeast ends of the stadium, which seats more than 60,000, was vacated. The structures include the south end zone office building, the football training facility and the athletic training center.
Some nearby streets were closed as a precaution.
