Wife Of Injured FWPD Officer Says He Is "Making Good Progress"

FORT WORTH (CBSFW.COM) - The wife of a Fort Worth police officer shot seven times last month says her husband is making "good progress in therapy."
On the GoFundMe page for Officer Matt Pearce, Laura Pearce said that as of now medical staff is still packing the wounds where bullets entered his body, but that doctors expect those to be healed in week or so.
Officers were trying to arrest Ed McIver Sr. last month, on aggravated assault charges and for jumping bail, when gunfire broke out as he fled with his adult son. McIver Sr. was killed by police and after an hours long manhunt, the suspect's son, Ed McIver Jr., was captured and arrested.
Officer Pearce was wounded in the shootout. He was shot once in the cheek, twice in the arm, twice in the chest and twice in the leg. Laura Pearce said doctors removed the sutures from his stomach Tuesday and that the wound is "healing great!"
Since one of those bullets hit Officer Pearce in the cheek he has had a lot of facial reconstruction, but Laura Pearce said the hardware should be coming out of his mouth soon. In the post she said, "He's excited! He's ready to eat like a normal person again. His first choice of food...he wants a hot dog!"
Laura Pearce said her husband will go back to see doctors in about two weeks, so they can evaluate the healing of his leg and determine if and when he will be able to start putting weight on it.
It was a little more than two weeks ago when Officer Pearce appeared via FaceTime at a #TeamPearce fundraising event. Officer Pearce had just been released from ICU and joined the event from his hospital bed. He thanked the community and promised to return to service, saying, "I'm going to keep fighting 'cuz y'all keep fighting. We're going to get this done. I'm coming back. I'll be back."
Officer Pearce will have another in about two months to check the injury to his aorta to make sure it's not getting bigger or starting to bleed. One of the bullets that hit Officer Pearce either grazed his aorta or the impact from the blast injured the artery.
