What's Next For UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon 'Bones' Jones
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Jon Jones was absolutely dominant on Saturday night in his Light-Heavyweight title defense victory over challenger Rashad Evans.
The fight was never in doubt as Jones was able to use his significant reach advantage and solid movement to keep Evans out of striking range.
Evans was nowhere near as aggressive as he needed to be in the 4th and 5th rounds of the fight and Jones was actually the one that was still pushing the pace in the later rounds.
Jones showed great cardio in going 5 rounds for the first time in his career although I personally didn't have any questions about his cardio heading into the fight. Both fighters were very complimentary towards each other in the post-fight press conference and it looked as if the bad blood between the two is gone.
Next for Jon Jones
UFC President Dana White announced at the post-fight press conference that Dan Henderson will be the next to challenge Jones. This was expected as Henderson has been waiting for this fight since he defeated Shogun Rua back in November.
I know that a lot of people will say that Henderson has the same "punchers chance" that Evans did but I have no idea how the 41yr old (turns 42 in august) plans to get close enough to connect on Jones. One good thing about this announcement is that it already looks like we will be getting to watch Bones Jones fight 3 times this year.
The biggest question with Jon Jones isn't whether he will defeat Dan Henderson or not. It is trying to figure out the move after that. He has literally cleaned out an entire division and after he defeats Henderson there is not a legitimate contender that he has yet to dominate. Jones has made it very clear that he is getting bigger and he knows that he will not be able to fight at 205lbs forever. He has mentioned on multiple occasions his desire to fight at Heavyweight.
Dana White wants him to wait a little before testing himself against the big boys.
What I want to see
I want to see if I am correct in saying that Jon Jones is the toughest 1 on 1 fighter in the world. By that I mean that Jon Jones can beat any human being in the world up if you take kicks to the balls and biting out of the equation.
I want to see Jones fight Anderson 'The Spider' Silva at Cowboys Stadium!!
