Epic Cones Makes Epic Debut In Dallas

"There is no life I know to compare with pure imagination." - Willy Wonka (Gene Wilder)

Prepare for our mind, and your taste-buds, to be blown away!

Every so often someone creates a product that changes they way people look at their food. When I was young the food that did this for me was the Choco Taco! It took something I loved to eat, made it cold and sweet, and rocked my world!

But that's not the first game changer...

The Hamburger- although it's origin is cloudy and unconfirmed (Was it Louis' Lunch New Haven,CT c.1895 or Fletcher Davis of Athens, Texas. Davis is believed to have sold hamburgers at his café at 115 Tyler Street in Athens, Texas in the late 1880s) Either way, this bovine beauty change the way we looked at beef trimmings and bread.

Ice Cream Cone - at the 1904 world's fair in St. Louis, an ice cream vendor ran out of bowls and started a partnership with his waffle vendor neighbor changed our view on portable ice cream and waffles.

The Corn Dog - c.1938 at the State Fair of Texas, The Fletcher's changed the way we look at corn bread and frankfurters.

The Bacon Cheese Burger - 1969, A&W changed the way we look at Hamburgers by adding delicious bacon strips.

Frosty - also in 1969, Dave Thomas changed the way we look at soft serve ice cream and milk shakes.

Hot Pockets - c.1983 Breanne Linse of Chef America Inc. changed the way we looked at lunch on the go.

Fast forward to July 2012, and head to Deep Ellum, 3025 Main to be exact. There you will find a family owned lunch spot (open Monday through Saturday from 10am-2pm) that is once again changing the way you look at food! They are changing the way you look at tortillas, pizza, dessert , cones, hamburgers, BBQ chicken, pulled pork, curry chicken, apple pie, delivery vehicles, and the list continues to grow!
How can one idea be so innovative as to change so many mediums of the mouth?

Mr.Wonka, allow me to introduce you to savory!

Meet Epic Cones! Yes, "Epic" is used as an adjective as well as a noun here!

I can tell you only to not UNDERESTIMATE this hand held meal to go. It packs quite a delicious punch!

The Martinez Family form the cones by hand from their own recipe of tortilla dough (leavened with baking soda rather than yeast) and then hand fill overflowing with toppings, er, um, fillings? They then bake every one off in a custom cone making machine (the only of it's kind in the U.S.). When it's golden brown, crispy, crunchy, with cheese melted to a stringy lava hot perfection, then you are served a irresistible  revelation wrapped in red checker paper.

Do they serve breakfast cones? YES! Okay, do they serve dessert cones?ABSOLUTELY!

Pepperoni or sausage pizza? Cheeseburger? Chicken curry? Pulled Pork?

Seriously, YES! Now go check out their menu!

Food allergies? They have Gluten free menu items on the way as well.

Most of all my fellow foodies, they serve happiness in a cone and change the way you look at several common foods, therefore starting an esculent revolution of succulent significance! Everything on the menu is only $5! So there is NO excuse to not go grab one, or two! There is absolutely no disgrace for double-fisting these bad boys!

So I ask you, "Have You Been Coned???"
