What's In A Name?

Five minutes into the Cowboys Sunday night season opener against their hated rival NY Giants, someone...somewhere will utter those words Jerry Jones doesn't want to hear. Do you know? Do you know what words I'm talking about? I'll share briefly.

If the Dallas Cowboys are going to have any chance of winning Sunday night, or any game this season, they have to stay away from a few things each week. Especially Sunday night versus the New York Football Giants, who have yet to lose at the Cowboys current stadium.

Put aside the injuries both teams can point to that will give either team an edge here and there. It's the NFL! Everybody has injuries. Everyone has to deal with them.

Yes, the news yesterday of Ben Bass dislocating his shoulder sucks and he's out a minimum of 3-4 weeks. Yes, Anthony Spencer still not doing a damn thing and is for the most part out for Sunday night. That hurts an already depleted defensive line but I said no bitching or moaning about injuries, so I'll stop RIGHT THERE!

What words does Jerry not want to hear? In time my friends, in time.

Your Dallas Cowboys have a new defense as well as a boatload of new coaches. They also have a slew of new players, and more importantly, their starters are finally healthy and ready to play. Sean Lee, Bruce Carter, Barry Church, & DeMarcus Ware are all good to go.

The keys for the Cowboys every week are as follows:

1. Create TURNOVERS!

The Cowboys new Tampa 2 defense has to create turnovers EVERY game. The +/- in turnovers destroyed this team last year and it's critical for the Cowboys to shorten the field for Tony Romo & company.

2. Speaking of Romo, it's time to Protect the STAR (part 1).

Like him or not, Tony Romo is the star! And if he's not protected then the BOYS have no shot. With a patchwork offensive line to start the season, turnovers from the defense are even more important. Long sustained drives with this offensive line might not happen too often.

3. TOUCHDOWNS not FIELD GOALS.

I love Dan Bailey, but I sure as hell don't want to see him kicking lots of field goals.

Red Zone conversions with Touchdowns not Field Goals has to happen. Quick starts and faster finishes. Stop turning the ball over and falling behind. Chasing instead of being chased is not good in the NFL. Try playing with the lead for a change. Good things tend to happen.

4. FEED the BEAST.

Get the ball to #88 Dez Bryant as often as possible. No excuses anymore. He's healthy, he's ready and he will dominate his opponent each week.

5. Finally, Protect the STAR (part 2).

The Dallas Cowboys have absolutely ZERO home field advantage in the NFL. To be honest, they stink at home. The crowd stinks at home. If not for the jumbotron, crowd noise would be a whisper. WIN games at home! This team needs to Protect the STAR!

Now I can share the words Jerry Jones does not want to hear!

Protecting the STAR at his home has not been easy. Now, Dallas has a new home with a new name.

Jerry's home is now called AT&T Stadium. Will AT&T Stadium help the Cowboys winning ways? Who the hell knows what it will do? But I promise you this, win or lose against the Giants Sunday night, somebody, somewhere will utter those words that will make Jerry Jones choke on his popcorn. Somebody will say "Cowboys Stadium".

Let's just hope if five minutes have passed in the game, the Cowboys got a turnover, Romo threw a touchdown to Dez Bryant and they got an early lead!

What's in a new name? Guess we'll find out Sunday night at AT&T Stadium.
