West Volunteers Still Organizing Donations

WEST (AP) - Volunteers in West are still picking through donated items sent to the tiny city damaged by a fertilizer plant blast.

The Waco Tribune-Herald that many of the donations are being stored on the local Texas State Technical College campus. Volunteers are trying to process donations in a simpler and more effective way than in the hours and days after the April 17 blast.

John Simcik of West Long Term Recovery says the items they need the most are related to cleanup and construction. He says things like brooms, bleach and trash bags are "like gold."

Officials in West say they still need help as the town begins the long, arduous process of rebuilding homes and resettling displaced people.

Fifteen people were killed in the blast.
