West Explosion 911 Calls Released

WEST (CBS 11 NEWS) - Their windows were broken, walls cracked, and 911 calls reveal many people thought the massive explosion in West had happened inside their own home.

Callers told operators they thought someone needed to come turn off their gas lines, or power. In several cases it was not until callers walked outside, or were told to get out of the house for their own safety, that they saw the smoke cloud billowing from the fertilizer plant.

"Our house, our whole window, everything it sounded like a bomb, and I'm looking outside and it looks like a bomb on 35! I don't know what is going on!"

Some of the calls came from ambulance crews, firefighters, and other first responders, telling operators that any available resources needed to be sent to the scene as soon as possible.
