Wendy Davis Accuses AG Greg Abbott Of Incentive Fund 'Cover Up'
AUSTIN, Texas (CBSDFW/AP) - Democrat Wendy Davis is accusing Republican Attorney General Greg Abbott of a "cover up" involving economic incentive dollars on the eve of their final debate in the Texas governor's race.
Davis said Monday that her opponent failed as a watchdog over Gov. Rick Perry's Texas Enterprise Fund. A state audit last week revealed the fund awarded roughly $172 million in taxpayer dollars to companies that never submitted applications.
Over a decade ago, newspapers had requested documents showing how the Governor's office was making decisions on which companies to give money to and they requested access to see the applications.
Texas Attorney General Gregg Abott's office refused those requests, saying that they revealed sensitive corporate information.
It is now known that some of those applications never existed.
Aides to Abbott didn't immediately return messages Monday.
Texas Enterprise Fund Audit
A recent ruling from Abbott's office also continues to withhold documents related to Texas recruiting Tesla Motors, even though the company picked Nevada for its $5 billion battery plant.
The audit just completed and released by the state was complied to comply with a law that was sponsored by Davis during the last legislative session.
Davis and Abbott are scheduled to debate Tuesday night in Dallas.
