ARLINGTON (CBSDFW.COM) - Six Flags Over Texas is known for its thrilling rides but, this year, the park is stepping up its fright game. Fright Fest is now in full swing at the Arlington amusement park.
Thrills during the daytime are fun for the entire family -- with an emphasis on little kids. But the theme park turns scary after 6:00 p.m. -- definitely for teenagers and up. "This year is scarier than ever," said Sharon Parker, communications director for Six Flags Over Texas. "We are really proud of the product we are putting out this year."
A peek behind the scenes showed how makeup artists transform a fun-loving guy into a frightful creature when the sun sets.
"No blood before 6:00 p.m.," said Kimberly Brizenbine, the park's lead artist. "At 7:00 p.m. the park kind of closes down. We shut down Bugs Bunny Boomtown and then everything gets gory and bloody and it's fantastic." It only takes a few minutes to get an employee ready to scare.
"I make them bloody," Brizenbine said. "They just have to scare them."
There are four haunted houses spread across the Six Flags grounds, and a lot of gory-looking body parts -- all fake, of course.
Park visitors will want to be careful when rounding corners, because anything could be waiting on the other side. But even the straightaways can be filled with surprises.
Six Flags Over Texas staff members can even get a little bit freaked out while walked around the park. "Oh, my gosh. That was amazing," said Parker after a fright. "Just another day at the Flags."
Fright Fest is not for the faint of heart, but it promises to give you a frightening good time.
