FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A few weeks ago, we introduced you Wednesday's Warrior Ryan Mims, a 3-year-old battling very high risk Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.

He is in a war that will have many battles and he just won one this week!

He got his fourth treatment of heavy dose chemo methotrexate, a bag so big it takes 24 hours for the brutal but life-saving drug to drip into his system.

"I cover it with a towel because I can't look at it," said mom Christine Mims.  "And we've had to do it four times."

In reality, the 24-hour drip amounts to a nearly five-day hospital stay.

"The problem with high dose methotrexate is that it has to get out of your body soon," explains Christine. "As quickly as they put it in, they want it out. So, I'm up in the middle of the night changing his diaper every hour, because if it sits on his skin, it can cause burns."

Two days after the chemo filled his little body, it's gone and Ryan gets the all-clear to go home and be a kid again.  A winner in his latest battle in an even longer war.

I've been training since March for the Ironman World Championship on October 8 in Kona, Hawaii.  It's all to raise awareness and money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.  Here's the link if you'd like to support the mission.
