Website Promises Best Deal Or They Pay The Difference
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - North Texas mom, Kerri Scibelli recently discovered Decide.com while making her Christmas list.
The website proclaims it is "the mythbuster of shopping," which uses technology and predictions to make hard decisions simple.
Decide showcases the best deals on new electronics, appliances, even home and garden equipment from saws to treadmills and all of the products are rated by consumers and expert reviews.
The web site compares a few products from the same category with the highest ratings and highest Decide scores. The web site also tells you when it's the right time to buy to get the best deal possible. And if you purchase from the lowest price seller, but within the next two weeks a better deal comes along, Decide will pay you the difference.
CBS 11 checked the prices on Decide to see if the site lives up to its promise. An Apple Macbook Air was the first product we tested. Decide has one for $749. If you want the newer model, it jumps to more than a thousand. If you look at the Macbook Air on Apple's website -- both the older and newer models are more expensive. It's the same with Amazon too. But if you pick the more expensive Macbook on decide it would tell you to wait, because prices are expected to drop.
Next product: a flat screen television. The Samsung 46-inch LED with a 1080p screen is 100 dollars cheaper on Best Buy's website. But again – Decide tells you to wait before buying it based on a prediction that the price will drop about a hundred dollars – and that would match Best Buy's price.
Mike Davis -- a professor at SMU's Cox School of Business -- sees why shoppers would be drawn to the website.
"This online stuff has just opened up a complete new world -- a lot more price competition," said Davis.
"I think the more choices consumers have... and the more information consumers have...the better."
With online competition from the likes of Amazon, Walmart and Target, Decide has entered a war for your money.
Kerri says her decision has already been made.
"We'll be back on Decide.com, looking for the best reviews and best price."
