Knife-Wielding Man Shot By Weatherford Police Dies

WEATHERFORD (CBSDFW) - A man who was allegedly threatening first-responders with a knife was shot by Weatherford police Tuesday morning.  Late Tuesday afternoon police confirm he died.

According to reports, Weatherford Fire Dept and EMS personnel responded to a call of man walking around and acting strange in the 1800 block of S. Main Street.

While assessing the man for a possible medical condition, authorities say the man pulled out a knife and threatened EMS personnel - after which police were called.

The man then walked away from the scene and into David's Western Wear where police confronted him.

Following a brief encounter in which the suspect the officer fired his duty weapon striking the subject at least once. A police report states that a knife was kicked out of the subjects hand after he fell to the ground.

The unidentified suspect was rushed to a Fort Worth hospital. No one else was injured.

The officer, whose name is being withheld at this time, has been placed on routine administrative leave, which is standard policy in any type of deadly force incident. The officer involved has been with the Weatherford Police Department for more than seven years.
