Ways To Help Tornado Victims In Oklahoma
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - After disaster strikes, many North Texans begin looking for ways to help out. Several DFW area groups are already reaching out to our neighbors in Moore, Oklahoma. A powerful twister ripped through the community on Monday, leaving dozens dead, hundreds more injured and buildings flattened.
Most of those groups which are offering assistance, including the American Red Cross, need monetary donations.
- Anyone can easily give $10 to recovery efforts by texting REDCROSS to 90999.
- People and pets have been separated in the storm. The Central Oklahoma Humane Society and the Humane Society of the United States are also accepting donations to help reunite victims with their furry loved ones.
- The Salvation Army and Oklahoma Disaster Relief groups are delivering food to victims. But they need money to support those efforts.
- The Food Bank of Oklahoma could also use donations to help those impacted by the storm.
If you are strapped for cash, the American Red Cross will also accept blood donations. Those who are healthy enough to donate blood can simply go to any American Red Cross location and they will help you out.
In the meantime, Gov. Rick Perry sent teams from Texas to assist in ongoing efforts in Moore, the city hit hardest by the tornado on Monday. Texas Task Force 1 is a well-trained urban search and rescue team, and they left College Station early Tuesday morning to help out in Oklahoma. Members of that team were recently deployed in Granbury to assist tornado victims there as well.
