Washington Edges Past Georgia 68-65
Charlotte, NC (Sports Network) - Isaiah Thomas scored 19 points and Washington held off Georgia, 68-65, in a second-round contest from the East Region in the NCAA Tournament.
Scott Suggs added 10 points for the Huskies (24-10), who will match up with second-seeded North Carolina on Sunday. Washington, seeded seventh, won a game in the state of North Carolina for the first time in school history (1-8). They had to survive a last-second missed shot from Travis Leslie to advance to the round of 32.
Trey Thompkins had 26 points for the Bulldogs (21-12), who also received 12 points apiece from Gerald Robinson and Leslie and 11 from Jeremy Price.
The Huskies nearly wasted a 10-point lead with under two minutes left. A long three-pointer from Thompkins had Georgia within two with 5.4 seconds to go.
C.J. Wilcox then made the front end of a 1-and-1 with 3.7 seconds on the clock, but missed the second attempt. Price's long outlet pass was tipped away by a leaping Thomas, but right into the hands of Leslie. The desperation off- balance three from the left wing hit high off the backboard as time expired.
