Washington Back In Bay Area Managing World Series
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The World Series opens Wednesday night and for Rangers manager Ron Washington it must seem like an incredible journey.
Washington wasn't even sure he would be able to keep his first managerial job late in the 2009 season, when he offered to resign after admitting to using cocaine once and failing a drug test.
Team president Nolan Ryan and general manager Jon Daniels stuck by Washington then, and again last spring when the story became public. At that point, the manager told his players what had happened as tears streamed down his face.
Washington says he's thankful the players and team executives didn't judge him.
