Warmest start to February in 114 years as spring-like temperatures continue in North Texas
NORTH TEXAS – We turn the calendar to reveal the month of February. We step outside to find the month of March. After a chilly start, today was the warmest day since last December.
That huge jump in temperature was due to brisk south winds, low humidity, and plenty of sunshine. Typically, you add 20 degrees to the morning low to get the afternoon high. Today, you added 34 degrees.
It won't be as cold tomorrow morning, with upper 40s in most locations across North Texas.
Nothing but sunshine and way-above-normal temperatures to start the new month. Highs are expected to be between 15 and 22 degrees above normal for this time of year.
On Monday, we could draw close to a record high for the date, with two days this week potentially hitting the 80s. Looking back at the 126-year record, this has happened only five other times in the first week of February. If the forecast holds, this would be the warmest start to February in 114 years, with 1911 being the warmest start ever.
It'll be dry as well. The rainfall forecast looks bone dry for the next seven days.
Don't expect this weather to last. It will feel like spring all week, but by the end of next weekend, the chill of winter will return.
