Wanted Man Shot, Killed By Tarrant County Constable

FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM) - A man wanted for not paying child support was shot and killed Thursday night by a Tarrant County constable in Fort Worth.

Police said  Deputy Constable Chris Salone and an officer from the Texas Attorney General's Office were attempting to serve a warrant at the Ridgmar Hills Apartments off Taxco Road around 8:45 p.m.

When they knocked at the door, the suspect opened and pulled a loaded pistol from the waistband of his pants and pointed it at the officers, police said.

The constable - fearing for his life and that of the Attorney General's officer - fired twice - striking the suspect once in the chest.  He died on scene.

"Deputy Salone made a split second decision that most likely saved his life, a State Investigator as well as possibly many innocent citizens standing near-by," said Constable Clint Burgess in a statement.

Salone and the Attorney General's officer were not hurt.  It's not known why the suspect pulled and pointed a gun at the officers.

The name of the man who was killed has not been released.
