Waco Juvenile Curfew To End In November
WACO (AP) -- Leaders of a Central Texas city have declined to extend a nighttime juvenile curfew that's been in effect for 17 years.
The Waco City Council on Tuesday raised concerns that the curfew has negative effects on children it's meant to protect.
The Waco Tribune-Herald reports the curfew is set to expire Nov. 7.
The curfew bars juveniles younger than age 16 from public places after midnight Friday and Saturday and after 11 p.m. other nights. Exceptions can be made for youths accompanied by an adult or returning from a school event.
The curfew has been repeatedly renewed since the 1990s on a three-year basis. The Waco City Council last August extended the curfew for only a year amid concerns about enforcement and better ways to protect children.
