Voters Set To Decide Heated U.S. Senate Race
FORT WORTH (CBSDFW.COM/AP) - Tuesday is Election Day across Texas. Voters will head to the polls to decide several runoff races, and at least one upset could be brewing. In the state's most heated contest, Ted Cruz has been surging against Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst in the Republican race for the U.S. Senate nomination.
That race will likely be what drives many voters to polling places. The two Republican candidates have worked feverishly over the past few weeks to make a final campaign push. The contest was left undecided in the May 29 primary, resulting in a heated runoff between Tea Party favorite Cruz and 14-year veteran Dewhurst.
The race represents a vivid contrast between the GOP establishment and the Tea Party, and could be indicative of a nationwide trend.

The contentious showdown will come to a close on Tuesday, and it could once again be a tight race. Latest poll numbers show Cruz pulling ahead of rival Dewhurst, but with just 52 percent.
Dewhurst received help from Gov. Rick Perry on Monday. The pair made last minute calls to supporters, reminding them to go to the polls. Cruz has some big names backing him as well, including former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin.
Democrats will also decide their nominee for the U.S. Senate, between retired educator Grady Yarbrough former state Rep. Paul Sadler.
The polls are open from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. across the state on Tuesday.
