Volunteers Surprise Paralyzed High Schooler With New Home
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Miracles don't only happen on 34 Street: They also happen on Angelina Drive in West Dallas, where a community helped build a new home for paralyzed Pinkston High School football player Jared Williams.
Pinkston High School is known for its parades and for Project 24, the fundraising campaign inspired by #24 Jared Williams who was paralyzed during a football game last year.
The campaign encouraged everyone to donate .24 cents to help build a home equipped to handle Jared's special needs. The project raised more than $100,000. And Jared's new home was ready in time for Christmas, which was cause for celebration and a parade.
Jared's former teammates wheeled him down the parade route, which ended in front of his new home. The door was tied with a big red bow. Jared smiled when he saw it.
His mother, Arlenna Williams, burst into tears when she walked through the door.
"Oh God. I thank you," she said, crying.
The 2,100 square foot home will allow Jared to move anywhere he wants to in his wheelchair.
"Never though we'd actually have our own house," he said.
"It's amazing what God can do through people," Arlenna Williams added.
The home was built with help from Builders of Hope and finished on the day they said it would be - just in time for Christmas.
"This is a great Christmas present," Jared said with a smile. "I like this!"
The first thing the Williams family plans to do in their new home is move in. That project will begin Saturday.
