Vitor Belfort Named Challenger For Jon Jones At UFC 152
DALLAS (CBSDFW) - Late Thursday night, UFC president Dana White announced that Lyoto Machida, Jon Jones' presumed challenger for the September 22 card in Toronto, had in fact chosen to turn down the fight.
It was also revealed that another top contender, Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, had turned down the same title shot after Machida declined.
The UFC has now settled on Vitor Belfort as a title challenger for Jon Jones at UFC 152.
Belfort, who coached against Wanderlei Silva on the most recent season of "The Ultimate Fighter" in Brazil, has been on the shelf with an injury and was originally scheduled to return to action in an October middleweight match up against Alan Belcher.
Although Belfort is a former UFC light heavyweight champion, he has not fought at the 205 pound limit in five years, and will be significantly undersized against Jones.
