SCURRY (CBSDFW.COM) — Community members will gather Saturday night for a prayer vigil to support a high school football coach who was critically injured during a game Friday night, according to inForney.com.

CareFlite transported Scurry-Rosser High School football coach Mark "Papa" Bachtel to Baylor Medical Center in Dallas in critical condition after he hit his head on the ground Friday night, inForney.com reported. Bachtel was knocked off his feet when a play went out of bounds, and suffered "multiple skull fractures and severe head trauma,"Scurry-Rosser Independent School District board member Nancy Duggan told inForney.com.

Bachtel was still in the intensive care unit Saturday afternoon, CBS11's Brian New reported. The vigil will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday at Scurry-Rosser's football field, according to the school's Twitter account.

The incident led officials to end Scurry-Rosser's game against Malakoff High School early, inForney.com reported. There were 6 minutes left in the fourth quarter with Malakoff leading 73-27.

Bachtel teaches eighth grade history at Scurry-Rosser Middle School, according to the school's website.
