Video Shows Moments Before Former NBA Player Andre Emmett Was Shot And Killed In Dallas
DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Dallas Police released video from two separate home surveillance cameras showing the moments before former NBA and Texas Tech basketball player Andre Emmett was shot and killed early Monday morning.
Video taken from a Nest camera shows Emmett sitting inside his Ranger Rover.
Suddenly someone walks up to the driver's side and points a gun at him.
Voices are heard saying, "don't move" and "we want everything."
Another camera angle captures the gunman's voice.
So far, police have not identified any suspects. They're hoping the surveillance video gives them some leads.
"I'd like to know why.. and I'd like to know who.." Emmett's aunt Karen Oliver-Thomas said. "It's just tough for us and we're trying to make sense of everything."
Emmett's aunt said in his short 37 years, he accomplished a lot.
"Ranging from high school to college at Texas Tech, then being drafted by New Jersey Nets. Traveled abroad," Oliver-Thomas said.
Most recently, he was in a professional three on three league called "BIG 3" and ran a foundation - "Dreams Really Exist" - helping children in need.
"He was a great dad of two beautiful girls - a two year old and a three year old and they love their dad.. they loved their dad.." Oliver-Thomas said.
He often shared their adventures on social media.
"To anyone who knows anything about his senseless death.. untimely death.. to really reach out to the police.. " Oliver-Thomas said. "As soon as the killers are caught then we can start to bring closure to this whole process."
Witnesses reported seeing two men, one described as a tall, thin black, man wearing a red hat.
The suspects got in a white Chrysler 300 and fled onto N. Fitzhugh Avenue towards Ross Avenue.
