Vickers Emotional Knowing Dad Was Cowboys Fan
OXNARD, CA (AP) - Lawrence Vickers grew up watching Dallas Cowboys games with his father, so it was special for both of them when the veteran fullback signed a free-agent deal with the team during the offseason.
But Lawrence Vickers Sr., a lifetime Cowboys fan, never got to see his son play with a star on his helmet. He died of lung cancer in early May.
The younger Vickers, now in training camp with the Cowboys, says it's very emotional. He thinks about his dad every time he walks on the field.
After spending his first five NFL seasons with Cleveland, Vickers played last year in Houston and got to be close where his father lived. A couple of days after the Texans cut him in March, Vickers signed with Dallas.
