Van Zandt Co. Man In Custody For Kidnapping

CANTON, TX (CBSDFW.COM) - A Van Zandt County man is in police custody for holding two Fruitvale women at gunpoint and having illegal drugs and firearm.

Robert Walker, 37, was arrested Saturday morning after one of his hostages was able to call police.

Holly Roberts told 911 dispatchers that she and Briana Rogers were being held against their will.

Each time Holly tried to escape Robert would point his .243 caliber rifle at her and threaten to kill her, said police.

According Van Zandt Sheriff's Holly escaped through a bedroom window of the home located on Van Zandt County Road 1919, just East of the small community of Fruitvale.

The Van Zandt County Sheriff's Office Tactical Unit, with the assistance of local, state and federal law enforcement, secured the rural residence.

Following a lengthy standoff with law enforcement officers, Walker surrendered without incident, according to Van Zandt Sheriffs.

During the standoff, felony arrests warrant was issued for Walker and a search warrant was subsequently issued to search the residence.

During the execution of the search warrant, Deputies discovered drugs including: Methamphetamines, drug paraphernalia, weapon including a .243 caliber rifle equipped with laser sights an assortment of long blade knives and ammunition.

Walker was transported to the Van Zandt County Justice Center in Canton where he was confined for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Possession of Controlled Substance, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and Kidnapping.

Walker remains in the Van Zandt County Jail pending arraignment.
