UT, OU Couple Finds Common Ground

CBS 11's Marianne Martinez Reports:

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Amanda Hoffman and Lucas Hall looked like an odd pair sitting together at the Cotton Bowl Saturday. Amanda, an Oklahoma fan, was wearing crimson and cream; Lucas, a University of Texas fan, was wearing burnt orange. But somehow, they found common ground.

"We got engaged in May," Amanda said, showing off her ring finger.

And, while walking around the State Fair of Texas, the couple drew plenty of attention.

"When we were walking through the fair -- oh, look at you two. Are you really together?" Amanda said.

That kind of reaction from Longhorns and Sooners shows the intensity of the Red River Rivalry. Saturday marked the 105th time the teams have faced off.

"It's just a special game every year. It's the best rivalry in college football, and there's usually a lot at stake," said Steve Lynman, an OU fan from Grapevine. He has attended the game for the past 15 years.

For some fans, Saturday was their first time. Jessica Earley, another OU fan, says her team's win made the experience even better.

"The fair made it really fun to walk around all day and then to be able to see the game," she said. "Very surprised, very happy. We've lost, what, the last three or four years?"

As for the odd pair, Amanda and Lucas decided to steer of any controversy for their wedding. They're not getting hitched in Texas or Oklahoma. In fact, they won't be anywhere near the Big 12 Conference.

"We're getting married in neutral territory," Amanda joked. "We said, let's just go to Florida."

But, come next October, they'll have to make a decision: which side of the Cotton Bowl will they sit?

"I wasn't sitting over there," Amanda said, pointing to a sea of burnt orange.
