COLLIN COUNTY (CBSDFW.COM) – The status of HOV lanes along US 75 will be changing on Friday to accommodate the $37 million overhaul of the interchange at President George Bush Turnpike.
TXDOT has created a fact sheet and map on the project with details on the changes.
Starting Friday, the HOV lane restriction will be removed on northbound US 75 between Galatyn Parkway and Park Boulevard.
A portion of the southbound HOV lane recently closed and the southbound HOV lane restriction in that area has already been removed.
The HOV restrictions will no longer be in place in both directions between Park Boulevard and Galatyn Parkway until fall 2017. The southbound HOV lane will be closed between Bethany Drive and Park Boulevard until fall 2017.
The changes are needed to provide room for construction crews to safely work while continuing to provide four main lanes in each direction.
The HOV lanes will remain open between I-635 and Galatyn Parkway, providing new access to/from the HOV lanes and the Richardson/Bush Turnpike area. In addition, the northbound HOV lane from Park Boulevard to Bethany Drive remains operational.
The project, led by San Antonio-based Zachry Construction Corp., will reconfigure the ramps and merges at US 75 and the PGBT, one of DFW's busiest interchanges. The work includes extending the railroad bridge just north of PGBT, constructing new auxiliary lanes and rebuilding the Plano Parkway bridge spanning US 75.
TXDOT says the work should be complete in early 2019.
