UNT Students Gather To Watch Inauguration
DENTON (CBSDFW.COM) - The National Mall in Washington, D.C. swelled with people Monday, all there to watch the second inauguration of President Barack Obama.
In Denton, at the University of North Texas, an understandably smaller crowd gathered at the Willis Library to watch the event happen live.
Those who turned up, like Sophomore Trace Walker, swelled with pride nonetheless. "I wanted to see the inauguration and witness history."
Walker, from Mesquite, remembers the festivities 4 years ago. "I was actually in high school history class. That's where I watched the first inauguration."
The biology major says he liked how the president addressed freedom and equality in his speech. "I really liked it. It was very optimistic, made me feel hopeful for the next 4 years."
Jesse Silva set up Monday's event at the library where he runs the documents department. He says the university has strong connection to government information, and that the school has a duty to students to learn and celebrate such an historic and inspirational event.
"I'm hoping doing things like this exposes the students to some ideas, so they can begin thinking how they may fulfill those duties in the future."
