COMMERCE CITY, Colo. (AP) — Victor Ulloa scored the tying goal on a long-distance shot and FC Dallas held on for a 1-1 draw with the Colorado Rapids on Saturday night in a matchup of the top two teams in the overall MLS standings.
FC Dallas (12-6-5) maintained its three-point lead over Colorado (10-2-8) in the Supporters' Shield race, while the Rapids stayed undefeated at home at 8-0-3.
Ulloa gathered a deflected clearance in an open space about 30 yards from goal and drilled a right-footed shot that curled away from goalkeeper Tim Howard and into the upper right corner of the goal.
Marlon Hairston opened the scoring for Colorado in the 44th minute when he blocked Atiba Harris' clearance attempt and followed the deflection into the 18-yard box for the finish. It was his second goal in as many games.
The start of the game was delayed nearly an hour because of lightning.
