UFC's Frank Mir Looks To Spoil Josh Barnett's Return To The Octagon

DALLAS (105.3 THE FAN) - Despite being a twelve year veteran of The UFC and a multi time heavyweight champion in the organization, Frank Mir is only 34 years old. It's an age that may be indicative of a fighter in the latter half of his career, but nonetheless a relatively young age for someone with his experience.

Mir has dealt with injuries that have effected him along the way, including a major motorcycle accident in 2004 that caused him to be forced to vacate The UFC heavyweight title.  The last few years though have been good ones for Mir, fighting top contenders and challenging again for the title last year against then champion Junior Dos Santos. He also became the first person to submit legend Minotauro Nogueria, and he remains The UFC's #6 ranked heavyweight.

Mir will look to climb those rankings Saturday night at UFC 164 when he takes on fellow UFC veteran Josh Barnett.  While Barnett has fought outside the organization for the past decade, long time fans will remember his 2002 defeat of hall of famer Randy Couture at UFC 36 that earned him the heavyweight title.

In Saturday night's co main event under the Benson Henderson/Anthony Pettis main event rematch for the lightweight title, two former champions look to distinguish themselves as the competitor who will advance their path towards one more heavyweight title run.

UFC 164 is live on pay per view at 9:00 pm central time.
