DALLAS, Texas (105.3 THE FAN) - If the Ultimate Fighting Championship has a folk hero, it may well be Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone. Having fought three times already this year and riding a four fight win streak with four straight finishes, Cerrone is the living embodiment of an "anybody, any time, any place" approach to fighting.
Listen to Richard Hunter talk with Donald Cerrone about his co main event fight Saturday with Eddie Alvarez:
Richard Hunter talks with UFC's Donald Cerrone
"Cowboy" has earned 15 post fight bonuses, the most in the combined history of The WEC/UFC organizations. He's also a notorious finisher, with 15 of his 23 wins coming by way of submission and 4 by knockout.
His opponent Saturday night is Eddie Alvarez, the former Bellator lightweight champion who will be making his long awaited UFC debut. Alvarez has big power in his punches, and Cerrone's rough and tumble style often leads to him getting hit a few more times than his coaches would like. Despite Alvarez's lack of experience on the UFC stage, his aggressive style makes this a very tough test for Cerrone and one of the more difficult fights on this card to predict.
UFC 178 is this Saturday at The MGM Grand in Las Vegas, available exclusively on pay per view (7pm PT/9pm CT). The card is headlined by flyweight champion Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson defending his title against #8 ranked Chris Cariaso. Donald Cerrone versus Eddie Alvarez will immediately precede that fight as the card's co main event.
