UFC Fighter Varner Called Up For Saturday Premiere

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - Jamie Varner has seen a lot of miles on his road back to The UFC.

Despite being only 27 years of age, the lightweight mixed martial artist has gone from debuting with the promotion back at UFC 62 to transferring to The WEC where he held the lightweight title, to being released by the organization and setting out on the regional circuit to work his way back to the big leagues.

When Evan Dunham was injured and had to pull out of his title contender's match with phenom Edson Barboza back at UFC 146 in May, Varner was called to step in on short notice as replacement.  Jamie was a huge underdog, and odds makers gave him little chance at coming out victorious.

What followed was the upset of the night, as Varner finished the top contender Barboza with a flurry of strikes in the very first round.

Now barely two months later, Varner is once again being called on to sub in for an injured fighter.

British fighter Terry Etim was set to face former Ultimate Fighter submission specialist Joe Lauzon at "UFC On FOX", but had to pull out of the fight due to injury.

Varner is once again answering the call tomorrow night on FOX (7:00 p.m. CT) and he sat down with me to discuss his long road back to The UFC, the upset that marked his return, and his strategy for victory over Lauzon.
