TxDOT Monitors Work Zones For Flooding

DALLAS (CBSDFW.COM) - With so many area roadways under construction, flash flooding is a serious concern for the Texas Department of Transportation on Thursday, as strong storms pound North Texas. But the agency said that it is ready for the heavy rain and prepared to keep all commuters up to speed.

Work crews were at the construction sites on Wednesday night and Thursday morning, checking areas to make sure that all water will be able to drain away. TxDOT officials are hoping to avoid another bad situation.

The last time that North Texas saw heavy rain, there were major problems at construction zones in Dallas. Simply put, there was nowhere for all of the water to go. And high water situations like that can put people's lives in danger. So, workers have been making sure that, this time, drains are clear and functional.

And it was not just TxDOT that was preparing for rain. Contractors will have crews outside to monitor the areas where water usually pools.

With so many potential problems related to water drainage on the roads, it is very important that drivers exercise extreme caution on Thursday, both during the rain and afterward. Do not try to pass through any areas where there is standing water. Motorists have likely heard it before, but it is worth repeating: turn around, don't drown.
